Architecture in Ireland encompasses many eras and changes and has suffered at the hands of its turbulent and often violent history.

In the 1600's many castles, monasteries and towns in their efforts to quash Irish discontent. Those sites that survived are prehistoric passage tombs, Iron age ring forts, stone round towers, tower houses, and castles.

Irish homes range from simple thatched-roof cottages to palatial mansions built by prosperous landlords in the 19th century.
