The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) was founded in 1884 to promote traditional Irish sports and discourage British influence.

The clubs consist of sports as well as social centers, are open only to Irish members and their guests. The social clubs have bars and restaurants. They pay low annual fees to enjoy club facilities.
