Ireland is in Western Europe. It is divided in two parts: Northern Ireland, which has ties with England, and the Republic of Ireland.

Rain blows in from the Atlantic Ocean, making it green for two seasons of the year that it summer and winter. This is the reason why it is often referred to as the Emerald Isle. Along the western coast are mountains which are referred to by the Irish as reeks. There are many lakes called loughs (lahks).

The Republic of Ireland, the majority of people are Catholic, shares the island with Northern Ireland.
